Hey guys, last year I started a new blog series where I would highlight my favorite dining experiences from the month and I’m happy to bring it back! I recently did an Instagram Poll on @markyatx where I asked you guys what you think I should name this (rebranded) series and gave two options: January Eats and/or Where I Ate This Month – I did this because I really wanted to show you guys how much I genuinely listen to your opinions! It was also just really fun having you guys help me with the process! With that said, January Eats ended up having 75% of the vote!
YOU’LL ALSO LOVE: April Recap | Where I Dined This Month
Going with the same theme as before, this series will be a round up of my foodie adventures throughout the month, with a combination of my personal reviews and opinions as well as highlights of my favorite dishes. You can expect these posts to be released at the end of each month & as always, please feel free to PIN my photos to your PINTEREST boards.
This series will be informative and all opinions will be my own. I would like to note that I always want to make sure there is no sense of tokenism here, but I will be looking for food and restaurants that are unique and that I feel deserve attention. I specifically want to highlight cuisines that I don’t normally see around town (or online), mom and pop shops, hole-in-the-walls, etc. My goal for this series is to stay super mindful of celebrating restaurants that haven’t been celebrated enough. Of course, you are going to see Austin-staples in here because duh (they’re popular for a reason) and there will be a mixture of restaurants included in these posts. Thanks for following along and hope you guys can find a new place to try.
January 4 – Flyrite Chicken
Flyrite Chicken released their brand new Wake and Bake Biscuit! This is their first time adding biscuits to their menu and it was so good! The biscuit is made with chicken breast, cheddar cheese, bacon strips, topped with a spicy maple glaze on a fresh house-made biscuit. Don’t forget to add tots and some of their Cuvee iced coffee on-tap!

Flyrite – North | 6539 Burnet Rd
January 5 – Ah Sing Den
I went to Ah Sing Den to try their Weekend Brunch and it is definitely one to try! My favorite was the Chicken & Waffles and Buranchi! The interior, exterior and Secret Garden are goals!

January 7 – EastSide Tavern
I worked from home on this day and decided to go to EastSide Tavern for weekday-brunch. My friend Mario accompanied me and we ordered a little bit of everything. The food was super filling for us both! P.S. EastSide Tavern is known for their meats, so I recommend adding sausage or brisket when you can!
EastSide Tavern | 1510 E Cesar Chavez
January 14 – Andiamo Italiano
You guys know Andiamo is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in town! I went for dinner one night after work and tried their winter menu. We had the Polenta fritta, Ravioli di Castagna, Gnocchi ai funghi, Ossobuco di Agnello, Salmone ripieno and for dessert we had Creme Brûlée.
Andiamo Italiano | 2521 Rutland Dr
Cisco’s has been open for 68 years and is Austin’s oldest Tex-Mex establishment. Austinites have enjoyed the restaurant for decades and they have some really awesome lunch specials too! I ordered their Wednesday, Enchilada Lunch Special for $6.75 when I went. What a deal!

January 18 – Fat Dragon
I was hearing a lot of buzz about Fat Dragon and decided to check them out for myself. They have only been open for 6 months and were very busy for dinner when I went. I ordered quite a few dishes, including their famous dumplings (so good), ramen and more. The owners are dentists by day and restaurant owners & chefs by night. Their recipes are some that they have been making for years and it shows in their delicious, authentic Asian food.
Fat Dragon | 8650 Spicewood Springs Rd
Wild Chix & Waffles
Wild Chix & Waffles focuses on sweet & savory waffles with creative add-ins (like chicken) and they are now 100% gluten free with the same delicious taste! I ordered the What the Cluck, a vegan burger and some waffle fries.
Wild Chix & Waffles | 7714 Burnet Rd
January 21 – Juice Austin
I had a long 3-day weekend on MLK weekend and needed a quick, body and mind cleanse, so I did a One Day juice cleanse with Juice Austin to make me feel brand new! January 26 – TLC Austin
On January 26 TLC Austin turned one! They offer seafood, sandwiches and a raw bar with a Southern comfort fare. Everything here is so good and they are one of my favorite restaurants in town! This was my first time ordering their chicken friend steak and I’ve been craving it ever since… they also have delicious bloody Mary’s!
January 27 – Jack Allen’s Kitchen
Went to Jack Allen’s for the first time on Sunday! They offer a buffet style brunch every Sunday from 10am – 2pm for $17! So good! Such a great price!
