Will Leather Goods and I

Will Leather Goods and I

A couple of weeks ago I visited Will Leather Goods at Domain NORTHSIDE and was given a VIP tour of the store by the assistant manager, Zach Miles. Will Leather Goods is a family owned and operated leather-goods store that has been in business since the 1980’s. Founded by Will Adler, Will Leather Goods started as a belt-making business in 1981 to help him and his family bring in extra income… the rest is history. During my tour I learned about the various specialties the store prides themselves on including hand-woven products (like reversible bags made out of rugs from Oaxaca, Mexico!) and their incredible ability to create high-quality pieces out of leathers sourced from around the world. Naturally, I fell in love with mostly everything! All items provide a rustic feel to them and the leather is mostly water resistant because of the natural oils and the vegetable tanning each product receives from production.

The store offers a variety of products from rugs, leather bags, belts, wallets, jewelry and gifts! After getting a full tour of the shop I selected a Rainer Backpack of my own and was able to emboss my initials on the front (free of charge!) It’s reassuring to know that every item (non-vintage) has lifetime warranty and/or can be corrected in the store. And with seven store locations and one opening in Denver in October, you’re bound to find something unique, timeless and durable in every store!

During my visit I had a one-on-one shopping experience (think Nordstrom’s) and appreciated all of the insight and information provided as we maneuvered our way through the store, it was quickly noticeable that I wasn’t getting hounded into buying anything–which is a plus for me! Shopping here is calm, relaxed and you really get that “in-shop” feeling with the rustic vibe and decorations surrounding you! The store also provides coffee in-house… I mean what more could you ask for?

Lastly, I have a special surprise for all of my readers and followers alike: Will Leather Goods is offering 15% off of your purchase (in-store only) if you if use my personal code, MARKYATX! Mention that you read this blog post and/or saw my visit on Instagram to get your discount, it’s never too early to start your holiday shopping (hehe).

See ya there!

Best Haircut in Austin: Birds Barbershop

Best Haircut in Austin: Birds Barbershop

If you’re looking for a classic barbershop feel with a touch of the times and a “Keep Austin Weird” type of vibe, than look no further because Birds Barbershop is all of this and more….

Whether you live South, Central or North Austin, you can find a Birds in your area with 8 locations throughout the city (and one in Houston even), each one having its own personality and unique touches that reflect the surrounding neighborhood.

I highly recommend Birds Barbershop to all of my friends, and no matter what type of hair style you have they will work one on one with you to have ya feeling and looking your best.

Now I usually go to the East 6th location, but last week I wanted to change things up and visited the Rock Rose @ Domain Northside location, where I had an appointment with the highly recommended, Shauna (@hairbyshaunad). As most people, I am terrible when it comes to hair-related terminology, and telling my barber exactly what I want has never been an easy task for me. One reason why I love Birds so much is the way in which each stylist can really take in what you’re asking for by taking many factors into consideration, such as: the type of hair you have, the style you want, the shape of your head, to asking about your lifestyle (yes, these questions matter when you’re trying to figure out what style of hair works better for you). For example, if you are an active runner, maybe you want shorter hair so that it doesn’t get into your eyes… these are the types of questions Shauna (and the stylists) like to ask their clients to make sure you get the best experience possible. It’s and incredible feeling knowing you’re going to be greeted with a smile when you walk into Birds, and be serviced with such professionalism and passion. Walk-ins and appointments welcome!

Birds also partners with local neighborhoods to run fundraisers and events to give back to the Austin area!! So really by going to Birds you’re a) contributing to a local, Austin company and b) helping give back to the community, how cool is that? Birds also gives college students a $2 discount with proof of I.D., a free hair wash for those who bike there, and provide you with beer while you wait! And yes, even the beer is local! Birds recently partnered with Independence Brewing Company, offering three of their brews: Austin Amber, Power & Light Pale Ale and Redbud Berliner Weisse.

So if you like to live by the Austin mantra of “Keeping Austin Local” and like to look SHARP *badum chhh* I highly recommend visiting a Birds Barbershop near you!!
